I came across Little Vic's new album Each Dawn I Die in the stack of last week's mail here at the SDSU headquarters and initially I put it to the side because the artwork was...not so great and the MC's name is...somewhat played out. Then this morning I noticed the sticker noted it included a DJ Premier track and I had to pop it in right away. And guess what? The album in its entirety is a pretty dope tribute to that 90's rap we all grew up to love. Buckwild contributes a track as well, Kool G Rap guests on a track and all the newbies that produced the rest of the album did well. Vic himself spits dope lines like he means it and is running out of time. Recommended. Don't judge this book by its cover and pick it up April 18th.

Now traditionally it's been difficult to even find more than 20 Hip Hop performers in a pool of literally thousands of acts performing at SXSW. The birthplace of hip-hop may be saved from gentrification, for the time being. In an unusual move, the city’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development has rejected the sale of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue, a culturally iconic west Bronx apartment building, to a high-profile real estate developing group, saying that the financing for the estimated $9 million purchase price is not viable under the current rent restrictions, according to an announcement made by government officials on Monday afternoon. This is a track off of Elephant In The Room and, though it could've been improved topic matter wise, the flow and the beat, courtesy of DJ Premier, are hot.

Rhymefest attended last week's Pete Rock/NY's Finest release party at the Highline Ballroom and did an impromptu performance while they wait for Wale to get his ass to the stage. A terribly overeager audience member gets on stage to do Kanye West's part on 'Brand New'. You know he was just trying to do what the kid did with Nas in the video underneath, a SDSU classic. ;) I don't mean to wish ill upon someone, but I feel this vibe in the air of the crowd wanting to boo the guy with Rhymefest and I kind of wish they did. He looks like MacGyver. Not fronting on MacGyver though, he was dope.
