This is Joe Budden going late-era LL Cool J on us with a club track for the ladies. It's unfortunately even more misguided than some of LL's moves. Joe can do a lot better than this generic 2001 crap.

'Touch And Go' was initially supposed to be the lead-single for Joe's sophomore LP, Padded Room, but because of some developments Joe has recorded a new lead-single which is so dope, the label and Joe decided to push Padded Room back to 2-24-09, to give the new single a push at radio and video. Now, 'Touch And Go' resurfaces as the lead-single to Joe's "pre-quel" to Padded Room, Halfway House which will be released on 10-28-08.

DJ Booth: In "Roll Call," you threw some jabs at the old label regarding the priorities
Joe Budden: And it felt great.
DJ Booth: Jay, Kanye, Jeezy are obviously at the top of that list. But likewise, most labels have that same problem. You look at Shady/Aftermath, they have artists like Stat Quo, or Bobby Creekwater, who signed back in '05. They haven't dropped anything. Do you think just across the board, majors in general, it's just not the right time?
Joe Budden: No. Certain majors just know what they're doin', and got a good grip on the dynamic of what's happening, and some don't. I think Def Jam happened to be one of the labels that really didn't have a good grip on things that were going on. I'll say that – that's my political answer.
DJ Booth: Joe, knowing what you know about label politics and corporate BS, regardless of the success that you did see on your debut, would you still have inked your signature on that Def Jam recording contract?
Joe Budden: No. Nope, nope, nope, nope nope. Definitely not. I would have had a clause in my contract; I would've definitely put some fine print in my contract that said, "If the president leaves, I'm leaving." That'd be the bottom line there. The people that signed me at Def Jam ended up leaving shortly after I released my album. So then it's like, I was in a whole different world, I was at a whole different label, a label ran more like Arista instead of Def Jam, and I didn't sign to Arista, I signed to Def Jam. So, no, I probably would not have signed that.

NEWS: Joe Budden To Release 'Padded Room' In Spring

This could be good. Crossing fingers.

If all goes as planned, rapper Joe Budden will release his first album in five years, "Padded Room," in the spring. "It's complete," Budden says of "Padded Room," which will be released by Amalgam Digital. "It basically will be in the same vein as 'Mood Muzik,' just a little more structure and the mood will probably be a little lighter. I'm definitely pleased with the direction that it's going." He adds that the album "sounds like Joe Budden. I can't really say it sounds like the times, because the times right now I'm not too fond of. I'm not too big on how that sound is going. But Joe Budden fans will get what they're accustomed to, and there's music on there for the casual listener as opposed to 'Mood Muzik,' which is not for the casual fan." (Billboard).

MTV's Suckerfree blog dispells those rumors of Joe Budden signing to Shady/Aftermath.


SF: Let me get right to what everyone’s talking about. Is there any truth to the rumors of you signing with Shady Records?
JB: No. There’s no truth to those rumors whatsoever.
SF: Do you know where you will be signing next?
JB: I sat down and talked with a lot of different people, a lot of different labels. Right now it’s about recording, letting my lawyers go back and forth, and figuring out which situation is best for Joe Budden. And the decision hasn’t been made yet. Full Interview here.

Here it is, the long-awaited Mood Musik III by Joe Budden. On 'Talk 2 'Em' he goes in hard against Jay-Z. "campaign's going full throttle like a waste (?)/if you're focused pa, get a bottle to the face/for you the times are rough too/coz ain't nobody buying your albums but you/but sales aren't everything/ i hear you lost it/still rap alright but your ill's exhausted/fuck your punching money/put your ego to the side/and maybe it's time to study your understudy/i mean, are we hustling or are we grown up/every time i hear you you're changing your tone up/when the new generation think about Jordan/all they remember is when Iverson crossed him/take off the blazer, loosen up the tie/n*gga fell in love and super man died/[...]/the new generation won't forget you we promise/we'll always pay homage/but lets get one thing understood son/every ump call ain't a good one" I am ambiguous about this diss. One the one hand he's not really saying anything new, and the line "and maybe it's time to study your understudy/i mean, are we hustling or are we grown up/every time i hear you you're changing your tone up" sound lie vintage Jay and basically mirror some 'Takeover' lines. On the other hand I understand where he's coming from and think Joe could've been let go so much earlier from his dead-end contract.

NEWS: Jay-Z Speaks On Joe Budden

The good folks over at AllHipHop went slightly off topic during the American Gangster listening session and asked Jay-Z about Joe Budden. Interestingly enough it was Budden's 'Pump It Up' that perhaps got the biggest audience response of all songs performed or spun at Saturday night's star studden show at Radio City Music Hall. And Budden wasn't even present. It was just Just Blaze spinning it!


AHH: Is Joe Budden ever coming out?
Jay-Z: The problem with that is, coming out how? If you just want to throw an album out there then next week you recording [songs] about how we didn’t support it. We could do that. We could do that tomorrow. I don’t think that what he wants. I don’t think that what he needs. Maybe…I don’t know.
AHH: At one point he was seen as sort of the heir to Def Jam’s throne so to speak and then you guys had a lil’ something on that song.
Jay-Z: That had never influenced my decisions. You see Beanie has a record with R. Kelly. Juelz Santana has put and album out. I’m way to big of a person to [do that]. I would never block anyone’s blessing, because of any thing personal. If I didn’t want to deal with him, there’s other people there.....I believe in that for real. Karma. You can’t just do what the f**k you want…sh***ing on people for no reason.
