But props must be given, this performance with Lupe Fiasco on last night's comeback episode of Letterman is classy. The Cool is out in stores right now and really growing on me.

After the big co-sign from Kanye West, now Lupe Fiasco is listing him in his top 10 of the year. He still hasn't listened to Midnight Marauders though and lists the beautifully packaged but not that great Unkle album above his two executive producers. Also that Foo Fighters album is ehhhh. But to each his own of course. Art appreciation is subjective.

On himself as an MC:"I am not the Hip-Hop saviour. I am not that guy. I mean, I don’t really think that I’m that good."

On CRS, the collaborative project with Kanye West and Pharrell: "I always say CRS is the last great idea in Hip-Hop to be done. But it’s a scheduling [nightmare]. Kanye is finishing his album [duties], I’m finishing mine, Pharrell is doing N.E.R.D, and then once we all come off tour everyone is doing this. We need to sit down and have a month to do a CRS project, and we aren’t foreseeing doing that til the fall of next year. Outside of the hype - once you get through the hype, the fashion [and] the clothes, the music is going to be phenomenal. That is the one thing that I can almost [guarantee]."

Lupe Fiasco, of FiascoGate, certainly doesn't dumb it down for this one. 'Questions' has him flipping vocal acrobatics and reshaping quite a few words in the process. Warning: annoying website drop embedded in two parts of the song. Not too bad.

NEWS: Q-Tip On Fiascogate

Q-Tip spoke to HHDX about Fiascogate. This should be over now.


“...we all spoke on the phone with VH1,” continues Tip, “in a creative conversation, and everybody seemed cool. I got there the day of [the performance] and [I was] told that Lupe had some problems with the lyrics. So then I went to his trailer, just trying to extend myself, and I was like, ‘So I understand that you never heard a Tribe Called Quest joint?’ He smiled and said, ‘Well that’s not true. My sister used to listen to it. I didn’t really [listen to it], but my sister had the album with all the faces on it.”

He proceed to call the lyric mess up “No big deal, people mess up lyrics,” and has spoken to Lupe since to get additional clarification on post-performance comments. “I called him and I said, ‘You know, I just wanted to speak to you man-to-man so you know that I don’t have no beef with you. And he was like, ‘They attacking me.’ He explained himself to me, and I listened. We spoke about doing a tour together actually.” Now that would be a great end result of this bs moment in Hip Hop.
