NEWS: Sit Down Stand Up´s Favorite 10 Hip Hop Albums Of 2007

Per request of the folks over at Imeem I put together a list of my 10 favorite Hip Hop/Rap records released in 2007. They even built a playlist of singles from those albums for us on their front page (and see below). I always have such a hard time putting together these lists, and I will change in a few minutes, but here is my list of my 10 favorite Hip Hop/Rap albums of 2007, of this moment. Who did I forget? (I'm sure I forgot someone.)

Sit Down Stand Up´s Favorite 10 Hip Hop Albums Of 2007
01. Wu-Tang Clan - 8 Diagrams
02. Jay-Z - American Gangster
03. Kanye West - Graduation
04. Sean Price - Jesus Price Supastar
05. Talib Kweli - Eardrum
06. Little Brother - Get Back
07. Brother Ali - The Undisputed Truth
08. Freeway - Free At Last
09. Pharoahe Monch - Desire
10. El P - I'll Sleep When You're Dead

Honorable mentions: DJ Jazzy Jeff - The Return of the Magnificent, KRS-One & Marley Marl - Hip-Hop Lives, Joell Ortiz - The Bodega Chronicles, Ghostface Killah - Big Doe Rehab. Who else?

The whole thought process for putting together this list can be summed up as: Which album did I listen to a lot, and will I continue to listen to. For example I really dug Common's Finding Forever for the first week or two, and then I was never played again. The reason that Ghostface Killah is merely an honorable mention is because I really just haven't lived with it enough. American Gangster is as high as it is because, even though there are some duds, some of the songs on there are better than any songs on any of the other albums on the list. Joell Ortiz shows most promise and is rookie of the year. 8 Diagrams is a sonic experiment and a step into the unknown for the Clan by way of RZA and I think it's visionary. It grows with each listen. For a seperate top 10 favorites list of mine, in the folk/rock genres go here.

NEWS: Freeway Explains Just Blaze Situation

Rhapsody spoke to Freeway and one of the things that came up was the Just Blaze situation and him not having a beat on Free At Last.

R: Why was it so hard to get with Just Blaze for this album?
Freeway: There was a little bit of hostility between managers. I think my manager was a little disrespectful to his manager around the beginning of last year. I don’t really know the particulars, but I know it had to do with some publishing. He apologized, but after that, I tried to get at Just a couple times. I’m not saying he wouldn’t, but he wasn’t in a rush or it wasn’t a priority to him. Just is my man. We lived together for a month in Miami. I felt as though we had a good relationship. I spoke to him earlier this year [about it]. We’re supposed to be past it, but still nothing’s happened.

Free does recognize Just's impact on his career and adds: "Just did a lot of songs on the first album, but he’s so good that he could make it sound like 10 different producers. He was responsible for the “What We Do,” “Rock the Mic” and “Burnin’ Up” -- basically my career. I would go there and he’d have joints ready." Full interview here.

VIDEO: Freeway - It's Over + Lights Get Low

I can't keep up with Freeway. Two new videos were debuted on OnSmash today. I'm not feeling 'Lights Get Low', the collabo with Freeway's beard-brother Rick Ross, so much. Especially not the faux-Pharrell sung hook by Dre, who just doesn't have that on-camera charisma or a distinguishable voice necessary to pull that off. 'It's Over' is a better track with a more interesting visual as well. It's the Kanye West/Just Blaze accusation track I posted the MP3 for a few weeks back. And just two days ago he dropped the video for 'Still Got Love'.

This is so my jam right now with it's Just Blaze-esque beat, we know the story there, and it's trademark energetic Freeway flow. Definitely 'Still Got Love'.

DOWNLOAD Freeway - Walk Wit Me ft. Busta Rhymes & Jadakiss (MP3)

Freeway, Busta Rhymes & Jadakiss, now that's a nice line up right there. Especially with Busta drops one of his better verses of the last two years, and Jada's first official verse as a Roc-A-Fella family member. I wonder if he's going to rock a Roc chain ever too. Off of Free At Last.

NEWS: Photos From Jay-Z's Apollo Show

Photos from last night's Jay-Z show at the Apollo. Guests included Beanie Sigel, LeBron James, Diddy, Nas, Freeway, Memphis Bleek and more. About LeBron's presence at the show: "They had a half court set up on stage. Jay-Z (and friends) ripped through all the hits. All the while LeBron just keep doing slam dunks in the background. Dude must have done 178 slam dunks the entire night. It was nonstop during the entire performance." (From a comment on BV.)

DOWNLOAD Freeway - Take It To The Top ft 50 Cent (MP3)

50 Cent co-executive produced Freeway's Free At Last album and sings the hook on 'Take It To The Top' like a real R&B diva. He has long sinced out-Ja-ruled Ja Rule, but can't front and have to say I dig this track.
