What's Going On American Gangster mashes up Marvin Gaye with Jay-Z's American Gangster and contains my favorite efforts of the slew of AG mash up projects. The overall album is good and the stand out tracks truly re-invent the originals and match up wonderfully: the melancholic strung out march of 'Blue Magic', the knocking bass piano groove of 'Ignorant Shit', the hard organ/synth twerk of 'Success', and the amazing 70's grooved out smoothification of 'Sweet'. Props to producers Shuko and The Gunna for these.

NEWS: Beanie Sigel On Jadakiss Coming To The Roc

Beanie Sigel was interviewed by LAist and asked for his opinion on Jadakiss joining Roc-A-Fella.


"It’s great for hip hop. It’s a great look. This is going bring back that energy hip hop is lacking right now. We’ll definitely be working together in the future. In fact, we just did the Roc Boys remix together. Yeah, that remix is me, Jada and Jay. There will definitely be more to come from me and Jada." Can't wait to hear that one.

NEWS: Rick Ross's Trilla Pushed Back

Rick Ross's upcoming album Trilla has been pushed back from December 18th to February 19th. With the new album's first single, "Speedin'" featuring R. Kelly, stuck at No. 76 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, Def Jam opted to give the project more time to develop. (Billboard)



Not that I was fiendin' for this release and am complaining but, Beanie Sigel's single with R. Kelly was also weak, but he didn't get pushed back. "'Trilla' means real enough and was really inspired by Michael Jackson's 'Thriller. It's going to be the biggest street album of the year." The album is set to feature Jay-Z, Lil' Wayne, Trick Daddy, Akon, T-Pain, Marsha Ambrosius and production from the Runners, DJ Toomp and Cool and Dre. More here.

Yes, that James Blunt. The skinny affected dude that sings 'Beautiful' out of the speakers in every mall in the country. But no worries, this 'feature' is really just a sample that sounds like it came off of a Kanye-esque 1970's soul record. Mack Mittens uses the word 'blunt' in the song, maybe as a clever reference, or maybe out of habit. Excellent song off of The Solution (Dec. 11th).

Now that Beanie Sigel is releasing heat again, and Free, and Kanye West just dropped the best selling record of the year, and Jay-Z's American Gangster on the way, can we say the Roc is back on top, sort of, again? I wish Lil' Wayne would stop e-mailing his verses without much regard to the actual track or topic matter of the neighboring verses.

The interviewer sounds about as "Amateur Podcast/College Paper From New Hampshire" as it gets. It's endearing to hear his call him 'Beans', in the same way he'd ask his mother for some bean soup.
