NEWS: Pitchfork Include 4 Hip Hop/Rap Songs In Year's Top 10

After giving T.I. and Clipse some nods, and Justin Timberlake getting song of the year last year for 'My Love', indie-rock media power house continues it's fascination with random Hip Hop songs. Props for picking superior deep cut 'Ignorant Shit' over Rolling Stones's song of the year 'Roc Boys' (which has grown on me, but is still not as good as the former). This year's top 10 features 4 Hip Hop/Rap Songs. Ok, so I'm kind of including M.I.A.'s song 'Paper Planes' in the Hip Hop/Rap category just for having Bun B and Rich Boy on it, and Rihanna's 'Umbrella' for Jay-Z's half-assed intro verse. Check out all Hip Hop/Rap tracks that appear in the top 100 below, and the full list can be read here.

NEWS: Big Boi Releasing Single On New Years

Big Boi may be releasing the very first single of 2008. He spoke to Vibe Magazine.

V: What's the status of the Big Boi solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot?
BIG BOI: It's coming along great, man. I'm going to put 12 songs on there, I'm finished with like nine right now. Production is by Organized Noize. Speakerboxx was my first solo album, so just imagine what this is going to sound like. I'm very excited about it, and we just putting it together right now. I plan on releasing a single on December 31 at midnight going into the New Year, cause I want all the stuff to be '08, everything to be brand new. It's going to be a lot of surprises. We just really trying to bring that [good] music back.

On collaborating with Andre 3000:

V: Will you and Andre 3000 package your solo albums together this time?
BIG BOI: No, not this time. This time we're going to go for what we know. We're going to give it to [fans] separate. I'm going to do mine, Dre's going to do his, then we're going to put the Outkast record out after that. (Via DailySwarm)

VIDEO: Andre 3000 Is On A Whole Nother Level

Andre 3000 is so far ahead of other MCs that this rhyme goes so far over my head it seems like another language to me.

Andre 3000 is such of an MC's MC. I'd love to hear him over some New York production sometime. This track is off of the DJ Drama Gangsta Grillz album. Eskay had the hookup.

NEWS: Andre 3000 Battles In Seattle

No, not a real rap battle like I know you'd like to see. It's just a movie, but it looks like a good one. Andre 3000 is starring alongside Charlize Theron, Ray Liotta, Woody Harrelson, Channing Tatum, Michelle Rodriguez and other in Battle in Seattle. More photos and info on the movie here.

Yeah, it's a slow Hip Hop news day.

Ice Cube and B-Real when they were 20 somethings
First we get a Dead Presidents III snippet, now a remix to '30 Something' off of Kingdom Come featuring two of my all time favorite rappers. Ice Cube does great, but Andre 3000 shows the game once more that it needs him. Via IllRoots.

Outkast/Goodie Mob affiliate and Dungeon Family member Witchdoctor has always been one of my favorite out-of-left-field type of people in Hip Hop. This trippy beat perfectly fits his updated style. Off of his new album Diary of an American Witchdoctor, out October 23rd.

Witchdoctor is currently on tour with Ghostface Killah

VIDEO: Hey Ya by Casey Shea, Kyle Ervin & Ryan

Last Tuesday (8/21) Engine Room Recordings threw a launch party for the soon to be released Guilt By Association compilation album (09/04). The party was part of the weekly concert series Cross-Pollination at Pianos in the Lower East Side of NYC. Casey Shea and Kyle Ervin picked the ever loved 'Hey Ya' (Outkast) as their cover of choice and recruited Ryan Vaughn on percussion. Stick around til after the first verse when the girl in front of the camera moves out of the way and crowd tunes in and erupted in a rapture sing-a-long and fascination with Casey's dancemoves and exclamation: "Shake it little bitch".
